About this course
Adultism is a societal issue that refers to the favoring of adults and the dismissal of young people. It is an addiction to adult attitudes, ideas, beliefs, and actions and is rooted in the belief that adults know best and that children do not deserve the same rights as adults. This belief results in the perception of children as the property of adults, rather than recognizing them as individuals with their own thoughts, beliefs, personalities, and interests, and therefore entitled to the same basic human rights as adults. In this course, we will explore what adultism is, causes of adultism, effects of adultism in a child and how to tackle adultism.
At the end of this course, you will:
- Understand the definition and concept of adultism and its impact on society.
- Recognize the core belief of adultism that adults know best and children do not deserve the same rights as adults.
- Emphasize the importance of challenging adult-centric attitudes, ideas, beliefs, and actions.
- Encourage active participation to change the culture of adultism to one of equality and respect for all people regardless of age.
